Basketball Teams Travel To Barton On Wednesday

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke men's and women's basketball teams will travel to Wilson on Wednesday to battle Barton. The women's team will get the action started at 5 p.m. inside Wilson Gymnasium followed by the men's game at 7 p.m.

Fans unable to make the trip to Wilson can follow the games for free via live statistics provided by Barton as well as a live video stream for free on the Conference Carolinas Digital Network.

Wednesday will mark the 43rd time that the two teams have met. UNC Pembroke leads the all-time series 31-11, but Barton snapped an eight game skid against UNCP on Nov. 25 with an 82-59 victory. The Bulldogs shot 52.5 percent from the field and scored 48 points from inside the paint in the last meeting. 
Scouting Report: UNC Pembroke
  • UNC Pembroke has won its last three games including a 65-45 victory at Mount Olive on Jan. 21. The Braves shot 48.1 percent from the field and 22 points from 14 UMO turnovers. 
  • The Black & Gold are averaging 61.5 points per game and are shooting 40.4 percent from the field. Opponents average 64.9 points per outing and are shooting 39.9 percent from the floor. 
  • UNCP has limited its last two opponents to under 33.0 percent shooting. The Braves are averaging 37.7 rebounds per contest and have logged more rebounds over their opponents in the last three games.
  • Natalie Evington is coming off of a career-high 29 points at Mount Olive after going 10-for-20 from the field. The junior broke her own school record with nine three-pointers during the contest, which marks the most made in a single game this season in Conference Carolinas. 
Scouting Report: Barton
  • Barton is also riding a three-game win streak into Wednesday's contest following a 76-52 victory at Erskine on Friday. The Bulldogs scored 31 points in transition and 29 points from 28 Erskine turnovers.
  • BC averages 63.2 points per game and is shooting 36.8 percent from the field. Opponents are being held to 59.4 points per game and are shooting 36.0 percent from the field. 
  • Barton is forcing its opponents into 17.1 turnovers per game and are scoring 14.7 points from those turnovers. However, the Bulldogs commit 17.0 turnovers a game and give up 14.6 points from those turnovers. 
  • Lauren Mingo is coming off of a team-high 15 points at Erskine following a 5-for-10 shooting performance to go along with nine rebounds, four assists and four steals. The senior is shooting 42.3 percent from the field and averages 11.2 points per game.

Scouting Report: UNC Pembroke
  • UNC Pembroke pushed its win streak to six games following an 84-65 victory at Mount Olive on Jan. 21. The Braves shot an impressive 59.2 percent from the field and scored 40 points in the paint. 
  • The Black & Gold average 79.4 points per game and are shooting 48.5 percent from the field. They are limiting opponents to 71.3 points per game and are shooting 43.7 percent from the floor. 
  • UNCP is tallying 38.1 rebounds per contest and are holding its opponents to 28.8 rebounds per game. The Braves had logged more rebounds over all 18 of their opponents and have posted 20 or more rebounds over two of their last three opponents. 
  • Nygell Verdier is coming off of a career-high 24 points at Mount Olive to go along with seven rebounds. Verdier was named the Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Week on Monday and is shooting 46.8 percent from the field while averaging 12.1 points per game. 
Scouting Report: Barton
  • Barton has won its last three games including a 92-56 victory at Erskine on Friday. The Bulldogs shot a season-best 58.3 percent from the field and made a season-high 17 three-pointers. 
  • BC is averaging 82.0 points per game and is shooting 45.6 percent from the field. Opponents are being held to 79.6 points per game and are shooting 44.7 percent from the field.
  • Barton averages 8.1 three-pointers per game and is shooting 35.2 percent from the perimeter. However, the Bulldogs have made double digit 3-pointers in the last two games. 
  • Jaylen Faber leads the Bulldogs averaging 14.5 points per game. The junior is coming off of a 17 point performance at Erskine where he went 5-for-8 from the perimeter.
