SPARTANBURG, S.C. -  Marta Ortega carded a six-over-par in the opening round to position the UNC Pembroke golf team in fourth place of the Converse Spring Invite on Monday at the Carolina Country Club. 

Ortega (+6) is tied for fifth place and sits three strokes behind Shelby Herbert of Barton and Mara Martinez of Emmanuel who are tied for first on the individual leaderboard with a 75 after the first round. Catherine DeSiena (+8) is in a tie for 10th place, while Melissa Guerra Landa (+10) is in a three-way tie for 14th place. Maya Fitzgerald (+17) finished the opening round in 39th place, while Ella Woo (+24) rounded out the scoring for the Braves in a tie for 47th place. 

Taylor Black (+11), who is playing as an individual is sitting in a six-way tie for 17th place after the first round. 

The Braves will close out action at the Converse Spring Invite on Tuesday at 9 a.m. Fans call follow along for free with live stats here.
