Men’s Basketball To Face Chowan In Conference Semifinals

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The top-seed UNC Pembroke men's basketball team will face off against fifth-seeded Chowan in the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas Basketball Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Braves and Hawks will tipoff at 12:30 p.m. inside the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C.

Fans unable to make the trip to Spartanburg can follow the game for free via live statistics provided by Conference Carolinas. New this season, all Conference Carolinas Tournament games will be pay per view on the Conference Carolinas Digital Network. Fans can purchase a tournament pass to watch all games for $25 or purchase a daily pass for $10.

Saturday will mark the 16th time that the two teams have met. UNC Pembroke leads the all-time series 10-5 and has won the last three contests. The Braves defeated the Hawks 75-70 in the regular season finale on Feb. 25 in Pembroke. 
Scouting Report: UNC Pembroke
  • UNC Pembroke enters Saturday's semifinals riding a six-game win streak after defeating Chowan 75-70 in the regular season finale on Feb. 25. The Braves shot 42.6 percent from the field and scored 44 points from inside the paint. 
  • The Black & Gold average 80.1 points per game and are shooting 48.5 percent from the field. Opponents are being limited to 71.3 points per game while shooting 43.5 percent from the floor. 
  • The Braves record 38.6 rebounds per game and limit opponents to 28.6 boards per game. UNCP has held a double-digit rebound margin over 10 opponents this season.
  • Moe Bangura is shooting 57.5 percent from the field this season and is averaging 13.4 points per game. The senior has scored in double figures in 22 games this season and is coming off of a 15 point and eight rebound performance against Chowan on Feb. 25. 
Scouting Report: Chowan
  • Chowan has won its last two games including a 79-76 overtime victory against King in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament. The Hawks made 22-of-26 free throw attempts while the Tornado were held to 7-of-19 from the charity stripe. 
  • CU averages 82.9 points per game and is shooting 45.4 percent from the field. Opponents are being held to 78.5 points per contest while shooting 43.4 percent from the floor. 
  • The Hawks register 39.5 rebounds per outing, while opponents are held to 36.5 rebounds a game. 
  • Markell Hollis is coming off of a 20-point game against King in the quarterfinals against King. The freshman is shooting 53.3 percent from the field and averaged 11.9 points per game.
