SPARTANBURG, S.C. -  Catherine DeSiena carded a 3-over-par in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament on Sunday at The Carolina Country Club to position the UNC Pembroke golf team in fourth place. 

DeSiena (+3) is in a five-way tie for seventh place after the first round and sits just four strokes behind Ella Wiklander of Belmont Abbey who is leading the individual tournament. Marta Ortega (+4) is tied for 12th place, while Maya Fitzgerald in among an eight-way tie for 23rd place after carding an eight-over-par to start the tournament. Melissa Guerra Landa (+12) rounded out the scoring for the Black & Gold in a four-way tie for 35th place, as Taylor Black (+20) finished the day in 52nd place. 

The Braves will be back in action on Monday for the second round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The three-day tournament is being played at The Carolina Country Club.
