• The Braves (4-1) stretched their win streak out to three games and completed an unblemished home stand with
a 90-78 victory over Chowan on November 23 at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. The hosts used a key 14-2 run in that contest to negate a late deficit.
• Newcomer
Nigel Grant has averaged team-bests in both points (14.8) and rebounds (7.2) per game through the first five games of the 2016-17 campaign, but UNCP has gotten double-digit scoring output from three other players as well, including
James Murray-Boyles who sports a 13.2 points per game average despite coming in off the bench in all five outings.
• The Black & Gold has shot 45 percent or better from the field in all five contests this season, and
leads the Peach Belt Conference in scoring at 87.8 points per game. The Braves rank third among the 14 league institutions in rebounding margin (+5.4) as well, having out-rebounded four of their first five opponents,
including a +28 rebounding edge against Wingate.
• The Rams (3-3) have dropped two of their last three contests, including
the 86-72 setback to the Braves on November 19. Winston-Salem State suffered
an 86-71 road setback at Catawba on Monday evening as well. Freshman Robert Colon, who scored 20 points in the loss to UNCP earlier this season, leads WSSU in scoring with 20.3 points an outing. William Crandell ranks second on the squad with 11.8 points per game.
• Winston-Salem State has averaged 87.0 points per game in its three victories this season, but just 66.7 points in its three losses. The success of the Rams so far this season seems to fall on their ability to draw fouls as well. In the three victories for the Rams, they have registered an astounding 43 free throw attempts, but an average of just 19 shots from the line in their three setbacks.
• UNCP leads the all-time series, 3-0, including the victory on November 19 in Pembroke. The Braves opened the series with
an 89-88 overtime victory on Nov. 17, 2015, inside the Gaines Center.
