LAURINBURG – The 18
th-ranked UNC Pembroke wrestling team registered four pins and three other bonus-point victories on the way to a 46-6 victory over region rival St. Andrews on Tuesday evening at Harris Court.
The Braves (2-2) have won all 11 meetings with their U.S. 74 counterparts since the squads opened the series in 2006-07. UNCP has now outscored the Knights in the series, 458-62.
Jayquon McEntyre opened up the night by toughing out a 2-1 decision in the 125-pound matchup to give the Black & Gold a lead it would not relinquish. UNCP led 25-0 midway through the dual thanks to pins by
Chad Hoff (141 pounds) and
Eric Milks (157). UNCP closed out its portion of the scoring with four-straight bonus-point victories including a 17-2 technical fall by second-ranked
Blaze Shade at 174 pounds, and a 17-4 major decision by ninth-ranked
Mikey Thomas at 184 pounds.
Aaron Vaughan tacked up a first-period pin in the heavyweight bout to help the Knights avoid the shutout.
The Braves will take a nine-day hiatus from competition before resuming their 2016-17 campaign on January 27 at the Super Region 2 Duals in Belmont. The Braves are scheduled to battle eighth-ranked Findlay and 14
th-ranked Tiffin at the event, as well as grapple with Belmont Abbey in their Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) opener.
