Katy Flax (+6) carded dueling and team-best 78s in the first round and the UNC Pembroke golf team is slotted 15th with 18 holes to play at the North Georgia-hosted LeAnn Noble Memorial Tournament.
The Braves (+38) fired a 326 on the par-72, 5,934-yard Achasta Golf Club Course and sit just 10 shots behind eighth-place Erskine (+28). Lee (+8) is atop the team leaderboard after one day of play, while Peach Belt Conference foes North Georgia (+11) and Young Harris (+11) are tied for second in the 16-team field.
Bare and Flax share 31st with four others in the 89-player field, while sophomore
Casey Burroughs (+12) is in a tie for 62nd after an opening-round 84. Freshman
Samantha DeBusk (+14) and junior
Savannah Thompson (+15) are among ties for 71st and 74th after carding first round scores of 86 and 87.
Tusculum's Katie Tomassoni (-1) is the lone player under par after 18 holes and is one shot clear of a three-way tie for second at even par.
The second and final round will tee off at 9 a.m. Tuesday, with the Braves going off hole 10 between 9:50 and 10:30 a.m.
