DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The UNC Pembroke golf squad used the day's ninth-best round, a 29-over par 317, to leap four teams and finish 11th at the fourth-annual, North Georgia-hosted LeAnn Noble Memorial Tournament that concluded Tuesday.
Tuesday's second and final round saw the Braves (+67) shave nine strokes off their first-round score of 326 and four of the five Black & Gold players carded a lower second-round score than Monday's opening 18 holes.
Lee (+10) set a new tournament record with a two-over 290 to claim the team title in the 16-team field. The Flames 36-hole score of 586 is also a new tournament standard. North Georgia (+29) held off Young Harris (+30) for a runner-up finish, while Columbus State (+51) was slotted sixth after a final-round 321.
Alexandria Bare paced the Braves for the second time in as many tournaments, as the junior fired a second-round 75 to jump up 15 spots on the individual leaderboard and finish in a tie for 16th in the 89-player field. Sophomore
Katy Flax moved up 13 slots to share 18th with a final-round 76, while classmate
Casey Burroughs finished solo 58th after carding an 80 on Tuesday. Freshman
Samantha DeBusk shot another 86 to move up two slots into 69th and junior
Savannah Thompson moved into a tie for 70th with a final-round 86.
Lee's Haverly Harrold (-1) was the lone player to finish under par and won the individual title by three shots over Young Harris' Hannah Walker (+2).
The Braves are back in action in their final fall tournament Monday and next Tuesday at the Flagler Fall Slam. The 36-hole tournament will be contested at the Marsh Creek Country Club in St. Augustine, Florida.
