ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Freshman
Maddy Corley (+3) continued the impressive start to her collegiate career on Monday, as the Charlotte, North Carolina native carded her third score of 75 or lower in her first five rounds of the season to open play at the Flagler Fall Slam in St. Augustine.
Corley paced the Braves (+27) to a 14th-place standing in the 18-team field after shooting a 315 on the par-72, 6,062-yard Marsh Creek Country Club course. The Black & Gold trails 13th-place Anderson (+26) by just one stroke and is five strokes behind Seminole State (+22) in 12th. No. 10 Barry (+4) leads the field with an opening-round 292, but No. 25 Tampa (+5) and No. 18 Wingate (+5) are each just one stroke off the lead.
Corley sits in a tie for 23rd in a 98-player field and is four shots off the individual lead. Sophomore
Katy Flax (+7) shot a first-round 79 and shares 51st with six others, while junior
Alexandria Bare (+8) is among a six-way tie for 58th with a Monday 80.
Casey Burroughs (+9) and
Savannah Thompson (+9) are in a tie for 64th after carding opening-round 81s.
Wingate's Diana McDonald (-1) and Cristina Casanella Martinez (-1), along with Tampa's Kiira Riihijarvi (-1) are tied for first and lead a group of five others at even par by one stroke.
Monday's average score was a 79.8, while the par-5 ninth hole yielded the most birdies with 25 and the toughest hole of the day was the par-4 second, which played at 0.74 strokes above par.
Tuesday's second and final round will begin at 8 a.m. The Braves will tee off between 8:54 and 9:30 a.m. on hole number 10.
