ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Four of the five UNC Pembroke golfers carded lower scores in the second and final round of the Flagler Fall Slam on Tuesday to move the Braves (+44) into 11th in a competitive, 18-team field on the east coast of Florida.
The Black & Gold moved up three spots on the team leaderboard for its second-consecutive 11th-place finish after doing the same last week at the LeAnn Noble Memorial Tournament. Barry (+9) claimed a one-stroke victory over Tampa (+10) on the par-72, 6,062-yard Marsh Creek Country Club course. Host and fellow Peach Belt Conference school Flagler (+30) finished ninth, while PBC foe Montevallo (+46) finished 13th.
Freshman
Maddy Corley (+5) shaved one stroke off her first round score with a final-round 74 to finish in a tie for 14th in the 98-player field, which marks her best-career finish in her young career. Sophomore
Katy Flax (+10) carded a season-low 75 to leap 16 spots into a share of 35th, while junior
Alexandria Bare (+13) shared 53rd with one other player after shooting a Tuesday 77. Sophomore
Casey Burroughs (+16) finished amongst a four-way tie for 62nd with a second-round 79 and junior
Savannah Thompson (+19) shot an 82 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 70th.
Tarleton State's Casey Wild (-4) won the individual title by two strokes over Wingate's Diana McDonald (-2). Wild's final-round 68 tied the tournament record as did the 68 by Lee's Haverly Harrold, who finished in a tie for fifth.
The Braves will now enjoy over three months off from competition before opening the spring portion of the schedule Feb. 3-4 at the Barton Invitational at Kiawah at the Oak Point Golf Course in Johns Island, South Carolina.
