OCEAN ISLE BEACH, N.C. – UNC Pembroke golf junior
Alexandria Bare (+10) used a final-round, five-over 77, paired with her first-round 77, to haul in her third-career top-10 finish at the Lenoir-Rhyne-hosted Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate that wrapped up Tuesday afternoon in Ocean Isle Beach.
Bare's tie for tenth fueled the Braves (+50) to a seventh-place finish in the 17-team field on the par-72, 5,937-yard Ocean Ridge Plantation Panther's Run Course. The Black & Gold carded a 315 in Tuesday's second and final round to follow up a Monday 311.
Wingate (+35) turned in a second-round 208 to jump Tusculum (+36) and claim the team title. The Pioneers and the host Bears (+36) tied for second after carding second-round scores of 303 and 310, respectively. The only other Peach Belt Conference school in the field, Columbus State (+54), climbed two spots with a final-round 312 to slot eighth.
UNCP teammates
Katy Flax (+13) and
Savannah Thompson (+13) shared 23rd with five others after Flax fired a final-round 77 and Thompson turned in an 80 on Tuesday. Freshman
Maddy Corley (+17) used a second-round 81 to tie for 40th, while
Amanda Levy (+24) slotted 62nd with a Tuesday 91.
Wingate's Diana McDonald (+3) and Lenoir-Rhyne's Abbey Hartsell (+3) were tied atop the individual leaderboard after 36 holes, but McDonald needed just one playoff hole to claim the solo title over Hartsell.
Following a 12-day break, the Braves are back in action October 16-17 at the LeAnn Noble Memorial in Dahlonega, Georgia. The 36-hole tournament will be contested on the Achasta Golf Club Course. The Black & Gold finished third in the 13-team field at last year's edition of the tournament.
