Men’s Basketball Hosts Fayetteville State Wednesday

November 17, 2025

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke men's basketball team will play host to Fayetteville State on Wednesday evening for Greek and Global Engagement Night. Tipoff for the non-conference game is set for 6 p.m. at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. 
 
Fans unable to make the trip to Pembroke can still follow the game for free via a live video stream on the UNCP Sports Network with Alex Inbornone handling play-by-play duties. The matchup can also be followed via live statistics links provided by UNC Pembroke. Tickets can be purchased at here.

Series Notes
Wednesday will mark the 61st time that the two teams have met. UNC Pembroke leads the all-time series 30-20, but Fayetteville State picked up its first win over UNCP in 10 games on Nov. 13, 2024 with a 76-75 victory in Fayetteville. However, the Braves have captured the last five meetings in Pembroke and hold a 13-4 record over the Broncos when playing at home. 
Scouting Reports
UNC Pembroke
  • UNC Pembroke suffered an 80-74 setback against Lander on Sunday evening in a non-conference contest. The Braves went on a 15-0 run late in the second half, but the Bearcats held off UNCP making 17 of their 23 free throw attempts in the second half. 
  • The Black & Gold are averaging 73.0 points per game and are shooting 41.1 percent from the field. However, UNCP is averaging just 25.5 points in the first half of games. 
  • UNC Pembroke is averaging 42.5 rebounds each game, while opponents are being held to 36.5 boards each contest.
  • Javonte Waverly is leading the Braves through the first two games averaging 22.5 points per game and is shooting 43.2 percent from the floor. The senior is fresh off of a career-high 29 points against Lander.
Fayetteville State
  • Fayetteville State enters Wednesday's game following a 102-92 setback to No. 22 Gannon on Saturday in the BSU Classic. The Broncos shot 40 percent from the field during the contest and picked up 42 points in transition. 
  • FSU is averaging 87.5 points per game, while their opponents are averaging 91.0 points each game. The Broncos are shooting 43 percent from the field and average 4.5 three-pointers per game. 
  • Fayetteville State is averaging 22.5 turnovers per outing, but force their opponents into 20.0 turnovers a game and score 22.0 points from those turnovers. 
  • Larry Howell and Ezekiel Cannedy have both had the hot hand for the Broncos through two games. Howell is averaging 26.5 points per game and is coming off of a 29-point showing against Gannon, while Cannedy averages 21.5 points per contest and scored a game-high 30 points against Gannon.
