Hoop Squads Host Southern Wesleyan For Alumni Weekend

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke men's and women's basketball teams will return to action at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court on Saturday when they welcome Southern Wesleyan to town. The women's team will get the action started at 2 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 4 p.m.

Fans unable to make the trip to Pembroke can follow the games for free via live statistics and a live video stream on the UNCP Sports Network with Alex Inbornone handling the play-by-play duties. Tickets for Monday's game can be purchased at UNCPBraves.com/Tickets.

Saturday will mark the ninth time the two teams have met. UNC Pembroke leads the all-time series 8-0 and defeated Southern Wesleyan 75-62 in the last meeting on February, 15, 2025 in Central, S.C.
Scouting Report: UNC Pembroke
  • UNC Pembroke has lost two out of its last three games including a 58-53 setback at Ferrum on Wednesday. The Panthers outscored the Braves 40-28 with points in the paint and shot 46.8 percent from the floor.
  • UNCP averages 62.1 points per game and is shooting 40.4 percent from the field. However, opponents average 65.3 points per game and are shooting 40.6 percent from the floor. 
  • The Black & Gold average 37.7 rebounds per game compared to 35.9 board from their opponents. UNC Pembroke also makes 4.0 three-pointers per game.
  • Natalie Evington is coming off a 12-point show at Ferrum. The junior is shooting 33.8 percent from the field and averages 8.5 points per game. 
Scouting Report: Southern Wesleyan
  • Southern Wesleyan snapped a five game skid on Tuesday with an 88-52 victory against Erskine. The Warriors shot a season-best 47.2 percent from the field and scored 23 points from 18 Flying Fleet turnovers.
  • SWU is averaging 65.7 points per game and is shooting 38.2 percent from the field. However, opponents are shooting 42.7 percent from the floor and average 76.7 points per game. 
  • The Warriors are shooting 31.8 percent from the perimeter and average 7.7 three pointers per game. Opponents score 20.4 points from Southern Wesleyan's 18.8 turnovers per game.
  • Makayla Raines leads Southern Wesleyan averaging 15.7 points per game while shooting 42.5 percent from the field. The junior has scored in double-figures in 18 games this season.

Scouting Report: UNC Pembroke
  • UNC Pembroke had its nine game win streak snapped on Wednesday with a 65-64 setback at Ferrum on Wednesday. The Panthers knocked down a shot with two seconds left to seal the victory and made 18-of-24 free throw attempts. 
  • The Braves average 79.0 points per game and are shooting 49.1 percent from the field. Opponents are being held to 70.5 points per game and are shooting 42.8 percent from the field. 
  • The Black & Gold post 37.5 rebounds per game while they limit opponents to 28.4 boards per game. The Braves also average 19.5 free throws per outing. 
  • Moe Bangura leads UNC Pembroke averaging 13.0 points per game while shooting 58.9 percent from the field. The senior has scored in double-figures in the last 10 games, including a team-best 16 points at Ferrum on Wednesday. 
Scouting Report: Southern Wesleyan 
  • Southern Wesleyan has won five out of its last six games and rides three game win streak into Saturday's contest following a 78-67 victory against Erskine. The Warriors shot 51.9 percent from the field and had five players score in double figures against the Flying Fleet.
  • SWU averages 83.1 points per game and is shooting 44.3 percent from the field. Opponents average 86.3 points per contest and are shooting 49.2 percent from the floor. 
  • Southern Wesleyan averages just 10.8 turnovers per game and is shooting 31.8 percent from the perimeter. 
  • Jaquay Randolph has started in all 22 games and leads the Warriors averaging 18.9 points and 15.2 rebounds per game. The junior has scored in double figures in 21 games this season including a career-high 49 points against Chowan on Feb. 7. He was named the NABC National Player of the Week on February. 10.
