Hoop Squads Host Francis Marion On Wednesday

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke men's and women's basketball teams will return to action at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court on Wednesday when they host Francis Marion for the Battle of I-95. The women's team will get the action started at 5 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 7 p.m.

Fans unable to make the trip to Pembroke can follow the games for free via live statistics and a live video stream on the UNCP Sports Network with Alex Inbornone handling the play-by-play duties. Tickets for Monday's game can be purchased at UNCPBraves.com/Tickets.

Fans are encouraged to meet the teams following each game with an autograph session where fans will receive player trading cards.

Wednesday will mark the 83rd time that the two teams have met. Francis Marion leads the all-time series 52-30 and have won the last three contests against UNC Pembroke. FMU knocked off UNCP 75-54 in the last meeting earlier this season on Jan. 7 in Florence, S.C. 
Scouting Report: UNC Pembroke
  • UNC Pembroke has won its last four games including a 78-75 victory at Barton on Jan. 28. The Braves trailed by as many as 24 points in the first half, but outscored the Bulldogs 28-10 in the fourth quarter for the victory. 
  • The Black & Gold are averaging 62.4 points per game and are shooting 40.5 percent from the field, which ranks fifth in Conference Carolinas this season. Opponents average 65.5 points per contest and are shooting 40.4 percent from the floor. 
  • UNCP has tallied more rebounds over their last four opponents and are averaging 37.8 boards per outing. 
  • Bre'Asia Washington leads the Braves averaging 10.7 points per game. The junior turned in a career-high 31 points at Barton to go along with eight rebounds and six assists. 
Scouting Report: Francis Marion
  • Francis Marion rides a five-game win streak into Wednesday's contest following a 69-47 victory at Mount Olive on Jan. 28. The Patriots scored 18 second chance points and outscore the Trojans 17-8 in the third quarter. 
  • FMU ranks third in Conference Carolinas averaging 67.5 points per game and are shooting 40.1 percent from the field. They are limiting opponents to 61.7 points per contest and 38.0-percent shooting. 
  • Francis Marion forces opponents into 22.1 turnovers each outing and score 20.8 points from those turnovers. However, the Patriots commit 18.4 turnovers per game. 
  • Jasmine Grant is coming off of her second consecutive double-double with 11 points and 10 blocks at Mount Olive. The junior has seen action in all 19 games and is shooting 57.8 percent from the field while averaging 7.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per contest.

Wednesday will mark the 94th time that the two teams have met. UNC Pembroke leads the all-time series 57-36 and have won the last six meetings. UNCP defeated FMU 88-76 in Florence, S.C., on Jan. 7. The Braves are also 32-12 all-time when playing the Patriots in Pembroke. 
Scouting Report: UNC Pembroke
  • UNC Pembroke extended its win streak out to seven games following an 85-70 victory at Mount Olive on Jan. 28. The Braves shot 56.3 percent from the field and picked up 25 points from its bench during the victory. 
  • The Black & Gold are averaging 79.7 points per game and lead Conference Carolinas shooting 48.8 percent from the field. They are limiting opponents to 71.2 points per outing and 43.4-percent shooting. 
  • UNCP leads Conference Carolinas averaging 8.8 more rebounds over their opponents. The Braves tally 37.9 boards each game. 
  • Nygell Verdier and Moe Bangura each scored a career-high 26 points at Barton. Bangura is shooting 55.0 percent from the field while averaging 12.6 points per game, while Verdier is shooting 45.3 percent from the field and averages 11.4 points each outing. 
Scouting Report: Francis Marion
  • Francis Marion has won its last two games, including an 89-79 victory at Mount Olive on Jan. 28. The Patriots shot 51.7 percent from the field, while picking up 21 points in transition and 36 points from its bench.
  • FMU averages 77.5 points per game while shooting 41.9 percent from the field. However, opponents average 83.2 points per game and shoot 45.7 percent from the floor. 
  • Francis Marion averages 14.5 turnovers each game and allow opponents to score 16.7 points from those turnovers. FMU also pulls down 36.9 rebounds per game compared to their opponents 38.0 rebounds each outing.
  • Cole Deptula leads Francis Marion averaging 15.3 points per game while shooting 45.2 percent from the field. The senior went 7-for-10 from the field to score 20 points at Mount Olive, while adding five assists.
