PEMBROKE – Athletics department officials from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke announced on Monday morning that volleyball's Ruby Countryman and football's Malik Tobias have been named the Scotland Health Care System Braves of the Week for the week ending on October 29, 2023. 
  
Countryman started in all three matches last week and logged double-digit kills in each outing. The Indianapolis, Ind.,  native started the week with a career-best 19 kills at Chowan, followed by 10 kills against Lees-McRae and 12 kills against King. Countryman posted a hitting percentage of .400 or better in all three matches, including hitting .556 from the net against King. 
 
A product of Hickory Ridge High School, Tobias played a big role in the UNCP offense by logging 146 receiving yards. The redshirt junior caught six passes, three of which were touchdowns. Saturday's performance for Tobias was highlighted by a 52-yard touchdown to start the third quarter.
