PEMBROKE – Athletics department officials from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke announced on Monday morning that swimming's Mariel Mencia Martinez and football's Sincere Baines have been named the Scotland Health Care System Braves of the Week for the week ending on November 12, 2023. 
  
Mencia Martinez logged her second NCAA B Standard time of the season in the 50-yard Freestyle on Saturday against Barton and Roanoke in the UNCP Tri-Meet. The senior claimed top honors in the 50-yard Freestyle as well as the 100-yard Freestyle, and swam the anchor leg in both the 200-yard Medley Relay and the 200-yard Freestyle relay that placed first on Saturday. 

A true freshman, Baines carried the ball 21 times for 178 yards and five touchdowns. The Fayetteville native also caught four passes for 76 yards. The five touchdown performance from Baines broke the school record for most rushing touchdowns in a single game.
