PEMBROKE – Athletics department officials from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke announced on Monday morning that women's basketball's Shaymiah Bailey and wrestling's Avery Buonocore have been named the Scotland Health Care System Braves of the Week for the week ending on January 4, 2026.

A native of Winston-Salem, Bailey averaged 13.0 points and 8.5 rebounds across a pair of games. The freshman's week was highlighted by a career and game-high 23 points at King to tally her second career double-double with 11 rebounds. The freshman shot 56.2 percent from the field for the week and logged two assists and three blocks.  

Buonocore helped get the Braves on the board in a conference victory at Newberry. A native of Wilmington, Buonocore won his 149-pound match with a 20-5 technical fall.
