PEMBROKE – Athletics department officials from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke announced on Monday morning that women's basketball's Stella Mollica and wrestling's Avery Buonocore have been named the Scotland Health Care System Braves of the Week for the week ending on December 15, 2024. 

A native Mohnton, Pa., Mollica played a key role in helping the Braves to a 68-53 victory against Elizabeth State on Saturday. The newcomer went 4-for-6 from the field to record 10 points and dished out five assists. Mollica also had a trio of steals in 34 minutes of work. Mollica ranks second in the nation for total assists this season with 64. 

Buonocore capped off weekend competition at the 45th Midwest Classic leading the Braves with a trio of wins. A native of Wilmington, Buonocore earned a tech fall against Hudson Herring, defeated Hudson Hackbarth by a decision and was victorious over Matthew Velasco by a decision as well.
