PEMBROKE – Athletics department officials from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke announced on Monday morning that women's swimming's Benedetta Pepe Pugliese and men's basketball's Javonte Waverly have been named the Scotland Health Care System Braves of the Week for the week ending on January 28, 2024. 
  
A native of Avellino, Italy, Pepe Pugliese won all three individual events on Saturday at UNC Asheville. The freshman logged an NCAA B Standard time in the 400-yard Individual Medley to highlight her performance. Pepe Pugliese won the 400-yard Individual Relay, 200-yard Breaststroke, and the 1000-yard Freestyle events. 
 
Waverly provided key minutes coming off of the bench in both contests last week scoring in double-figures in both games. The Henderson native averaged 17.5 points per game and 3.5 assists per game. Waverly started the week with a 19-point outing at Francis Marion and closed out the week scoring 16 points at North Greenville.
