PEMBROKE – Athletics department officials from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke announced on Monday morning that swimming's Sofia Pereira and men's basketball's JaJuan Carr have been named the Scotland Health Care System Braves of the Week for the week ending on February 23, 2025.

Pereira took top honors is all three of her individual events at the Conference Carolinas Championship over the weekend and recorded NCAA B Standard times in all of the events as well. The sophomore started the competition by taking first place in the 1000-yard Freestyle on the way to breaking the Conference Carolinas Meet Record. A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Pereira closed out the championship winning the 500-yard Freestyle, and then broke the school record along with the Conference Carolinas Meet Record in the 1650-yard Freestyle event. 

A product of Burgaw, Carr started in both games last week and averaged 16.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. The senior started the week with 15 points at Francis Marion to go along with seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Carr closed out the week 17 points, three rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal against North Greenville. An everyday starter for the Black & Gold, Carr shot 72.2 percent from the field last week.
